TRUE Linkswear Motion Review
Every year it seems TRUE Linkswear evolves in a way that exceeds even the highest expectations. Ok, maybe not everyone’s but certainly mine! I’ve been wearing True Linkswear on the golf course for almost three years now, and with each new pair I’ve added to my collection my love for the TRUE brand grows stronger.
I’m almost certain anyone reading this is fully aware what TRUE Linkswear is all about so I won’t rehash the obvious – how TRUE is a zero drop shoe designed the give the user a unique experience on the course. We have plenty of articles on this very site that go into great detail about the makeup of the shoes and why we all think they are awesome. I will, however, be talking about one of the three new shoes that have hit the shelves this spring.
Most recently Adam reviewed the unexpected Game Changer Pro which is the first ever TRUE product to come with replaceable soft spikes. The announcement created a buzz in the golfing world, and many folks, including me, were eager to learn more about this new shoe from the company whose concept has been spike-less since the beginning.
Lost in the hype of the first ever soft spike from TRUE was the release of their Motion model. Much like other releases in years past, the new Motion carries on the zero drop tradition which I’ve long believed is a game changer for golfers.
For this review we received a pair of the new TRUE Motions which came in the White/Burnt Orange/Grey color combination. There are quite a few new features of this shoe starting with an improved outer design. On the toe and heel you’ll find suede panels that match the lace eyelet panel and really brings the shoe together from a style standpoint. The burnt orange piping on the back of the shoes is a nice contrast and adds to the laces and the piping alongside the TRUE logo in the side panel of the shoe.
One specific improvement of note are the laces. With older models I had to change out the laces right away because they were frankly just too long. With the new Motion, the laces and eyelets are top notch and stay tied nicely, AND they are the right length!
Since your heel takes the brunt of the force when walking, it is really important to have a quality heel pad. Honestly, I have a few pairs of shoes that remain in my closest simply because the heel pad is inadequate. Fortunately, the TRUE Motion heel is very soft and features a memory foam padding that truly locks your heel into place. There is virtually no movement in this area of the shoe during the swing, which greatly adds to the stability factor.
Over the last year I’ve been playing the majority of my rounds in TRUE Linkswear Lyt Breathe. I was awestruck at the fit and comfort of those shoes as they were unlike anything I had ever experienced from TRUE or anyone for that matter. As always when it comes to trying out new golf shoes, I’m a little leery of them not comparing to my current gamers. The Lyt Breathe have been outstanding but from the second I put the Motions on my feet I knew the Lyt Breathe days were numbered.
The first ever TRUE I reviewed were the Proto’s back in 2013. I had no idea what to expect, the only thing I really knew about the company was that Ryan Moore was involved, and being a UNLV fanboy I was eager as hell to give them a try. The first time I put on the Proto’s my jaw hit the floor, they were so damn comfortable I wondered why every Tour player in the PGA wasn’t wearing them. Several years later and I am now slipping my little piggyies into the Motions . . . I had an immediate recollection of that day when I tried on the Proto’s for the first time.
It was jawdropping comfort all over again, only this time it’s a far superior design.
The exterior changes and upgrades in elements and design were impressive; had only those few things been improved this would have been yet another great story of product evolution for the TRUE brand. But they did one more MAJOR upgrade that I feel has catapulted them to the top in the golf shoe market.
A complete redesign of the tread had me grinning ear to ear like a kid in a candy store. The Vegas and the Lyt Breathe versions are incredibly stylish and comfortable beyond belief but if there were any flaws in the shoes it was the tread. It wasn’t aggressive enough in my opinion, and I’m thrilled they addressed it with the new Motions.
You can see from the pictures how much traction capabilities they added with this year’s line. A much taller tread for superior grip over any other TRUE I’ve worn, and the Sensi’s were the equivalent of a snowboard boot and binding combination. The grip is phenomenal, I’ve even done my best at trying to get my feet to go astray but it doesn’t happen. I was even blown away with the performance playing out of the sand. The redesign of the tread was by far the biggest star for this review and I’m more than impressed with how TRUE has continued to improve their product line with every new release.
At $119.00 I feel it’s one of the most affordable golf shoes on the market today when you consider how well it performs. The style is unique and appealing, the comfort level is off the charts (seriously if you have never worn a pair get down to a store right away so you can feel for yourself how remarkable the Motions are or any of their line for that matter), and the performance is right there with any of the top of the line golf shoes on the market today.
The Motions are available in the White/Burnt Orange/Grey version you see here and are also offered in Grey/Navy/White, White, and Black/White. Four great looking color options give everyone a good variety of styles to choose from. For me it’s going to be a challenge to not pick up the other three versions!
TRUE in my opinion has done it yet again. I’m waiting for the day when the next release doesn’t one up the previous year’s line; so far there hasn’t even been a slight chance of it taking place. Knowing the people behind the scenes and their dedication to the brand I seriously doubt we’ll ever see that day.
The Motions as well as the Game Changer Pro and the Game Changer Hybrid can all be purchased directly from the TRUE linkswear website. Do your feet a favor and grab a pair of these extraordinary golf shoes and go enjoy your walk!
I have to agree with your review. The TRUE motions are awesome. TRUElinkswear has really improved their tread design with this shoe.
Dang, that’s a really good looking shoe. I ordered a pair of True’s a few years ago when the PHX (I think that was the model) came out. I loved the look but when I tried them on they just felt huge on my narrow feet so I sent them back. They felt amazing; just seemed like that toe box was REALLY wide. It appears that the toe box on these isn’t quite as wide as year’s past? Do you find them to still be fairly wide or have they narrowed them some over their older styles?
they are definitely more narrow in the toe box. IMO, they have made huge improvements over the past few years.
Thanks! I may have to break down and get a pair of these then after my Ashworth Cardiff ADC’s wear out. I can always send them back if I don’t like them.
